Kutch ( Cutch ) Silver

Much Indian silver has no maker`s mark.

However Kutch Silver can be distinguished by its closely worked, foliate, répoussée designs.

This répoussée work was accomplished by first creating the form of the piece, then filling it with a resin compound and working the silver from the outside, hammering it into the supporting resin.

When the work was complete, the piece was heated until the resin filling melted, then emptied out, leaving a stunningly decorated object.
