Exceptionally fine claret jug by Frederick Elkington, Birmingham 1878. The mount is chased with griffins, this motif being repeated as the finial together with a shield.
The Coat of arms on the shiled depicting a dog sitting under a tree is form the famous italian family Sforza & Visconti. The unusual coronet forms part of the lid. The glass is extremely finely engraved also with griffins, swags and floral grapes. The handle is particularly elegant at the top a finely chased floret. Ht. 11''
